Jersey is a British Crown dependency — the largest of the Channel Islands — sitting in the Gulf of Saint-Malo in the English Channel, approximately 20 kilometres from the coast of Normandy. The island consists of Precambrian granite and metamorphic basement rocks overlain in places by younger Quaternary sediments, reflecting an ancient geological heritage of continental crustal stability. Jersey's tectonic setting is essentially identical to that of Guernsey and the other Channel Islands: it lies well within the stable northwest European platform and is extremely remote from any active plate boundary or seismic source zone.

The seismic record for Jersey is essentially blank. No earthquake originating locally has been documented in any historical period. The same very occasional distant events recorded in Guernsey — primarily from Bay of Biscay or English Channel ancient fault reactivation — are the only felt events the island might expect on a decadal scale, and these are invariably of very low intensity. The island's Precambrian basement transmits [[seismic-wave]]s efficiently over long distances, meaning a large North Atlantic earthquake would be detected instrumentally, but felt shaking would remain well below damaging thresholds.

The [[tsunami]] threat to Jersey is effectively negligible. The complex tidal environment of the Bay of Saint-Malo — which has some of the largest tidal ranges in the world, reaching 12 metres — would interact with any tsunami wave in ways that are difficult to model, but no realistic seismic source exists nearby that could generate a damaging wave. Monitoring is conducted by the British Geological Survey through the national network.

Jersey has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Jersey's seismic history.

Jersey has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.

Jersey is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Europe. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
