Liechtenstein is a tiny principality sandwiched between Switzerland and Austria in the Alpine Rhine Valley, and its seismic character mirrors that of its neighbors in the broader Alpine system. The country sits near the junction of the Swiss Alps, the Austrian Alps, and the Rhine Graben extensional system, making it subject to moderate seismic hazard by European standards. Active [[fault]] systems nearby include the Rhine Graben boundary faults and the subalpine fault zones of the western Austrian Alps. While Liechtenstein itself is too small to have its own detailed seismic catalog, it shares the hazard environment of the Basel–Zurich region (Switzerland) and the Vorarlberg province (Austria).

Historically, the most significant earthquake to affect Liechtenstein was the 1356 Basel earthquake (estimated M 6.9), centered about 120 km to the southwest, which caused widespread destruction across the Alpine foreland and would have produced strong shaking in the Rhine Valley area. In the modern era, moderate Alpine and Rhine Graben events — such as the 1978 Freiburg earthquake and various events in northwestern Switzerland — are regularly felt in the principality. Liechtenstein applies Swiss and Austrian [[seismic-wave|seismic]] building standards appropriate to the moderate local hazard, and the population is covered by the regional monitoring networks of both neighboring countries.

Liechtenstein has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Liechtenstein's seismic history.

Liechtenstein has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.

Liechtenstein is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Europe. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
