Monaco is a tiny city-state on the French Riviera coast, nestled between the Maritime Alps and the Ligurian Sea. Its seismic exposure is moderate, reflecting its position within the Alpine system of southeastern France and northwestern Italy. The nearest active [[fault]] systems include the Ligurian offshore thrust faults and the Argentera Massif structures of the Maritime Alps, which can generate [[magnitude]] 5–6 earthquakes that produce moderate shaking at Monaco's location. The principality does not maintain its own seismic catalog but is covered by the French and Italian national networks and by the Geophysical Observatory of Nice.

The 1887 Riviera earthquake (M ~6.5), centered offshore near Imperia in Italy, was the most damaging event to affect Monaco in the historical record, killing about 600 people across the French and Italian Riviera and causing significant damage to coastal buildings. Felt earthquakes from events in the Ligurian Sea and Maritime Alps occur several times per decade. Monaco applies French seismic building standards (Eurocode 8), reflecting a moderate seismic hazard appropriate to its geographic setting, and the government's emergency planning accounts for potential strong shaking from near-shore Ligurian events.

Monaco has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Monaco's seismic history.

Monaco has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.

Monaco is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Europe. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
