San Marino
San Marino is a small enclave state entirely surrounded by Italy, positioned on the eastern flank of the Northern Apennines in the Romagna–Marche region. Its seismic exposure is essentially identical to the surrounding Italian territory: the Northern Apennines host a system of active NW-trending normal [[fault]] systems that generate moderate-to-strong earthquakes on a multi-decadal timescale. San Marino itself is built on Mount Titano, a limestone massif that provides relatively stable bedrock, but the surrounding valleys and plains where much of the modern population lives and works amplify ground motion from Apennine events.
The most significant regional events to affect San Marino include the 1916 Rimini earthquake (M 5.9), the 2012 Emilia sequence (Mw 6.1 and 5.8, felt strongly in San Marino), and various Northern Apennine events during the 20th century. San Marino applies Italian seismic building standards (NTC 2018, aligned with Eurocode 8), which place the territory in moderate seismic hazard zones. Given its tiny area and population, San Marino's earthquake risk management is effectively integrated with Italian national systems, including civil protection coordination and early warning research.

San Marino has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 1 earthquakes have been recorded in San Marino's seismic history.
The largest recorded earthquake in San Marino had a magnitude of 4.2. Earthquakes of this size can cause significant damage depending on depth, location, and local building standards.
San Marino has had 1 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.
San Marino is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Europe. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
