Estonia lies on the Fennoscandian shield, one of the oldest and most stable continental interiors in the world. The bedrock is Precambrian crystalline basement overlain by a thin veneer of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks, and there are no active [[fault]] systems in or near the country. Earthquake activity is essentially negligible: the national seismic network records only sporadic microearthquakes and occasional blasts from quarrying and mining operations. Felt natural earthquakes are extremely rare and invariably of very low [[magnitude]]. Estonia is not exposed to significant seismic hazard from distant events either, as the stable shield crust attenuates [[seismic-wave|seismic waves]] effectively before they can reach damaging levels.
Postglacial rebound continues at a very slow rate in Estonia as the land adjusts isostatically to deglaciation that ended approximately 10,000 years ago. The process occasionally generates micro-seismicity, but this is below any practical hazard threshold. Estonia has no seismic design requirements for ordinary construction and no record of earthquake-caused casualties or significant structural damage throughout its documented history.

Earthquakes Near Major Cities in Estonia
Estonia has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Estonia's seismic history.
Estonia has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.
Estonia is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Europe. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
