The Faroe Islands are a Danish autonomous territory in the North Atlantic Ocean between Norway, Iceland, and the United Kingdom, sitting on the Faroe Plateau — a fragment of elevated continental or transitional crust formed during the opening of the North Atlantic approximately 55 million years ago. The islands are composed almost entirely of Palaeocene flood basalts erupted as part of the North Atlantic Large Igneous Province at the time of the Greenland-Europe continental rifting. The Faroe-Iceland Ridge to the northwest marks the former continental margin, and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge spreading system lies several hundred kilometres to the west. The Faroe Islands sit on the European plate interior and are not positioned on any active plate boundary, resulting in low background seismicity.
Historical earthquake records for the Faroe Islands are sparse and document only occasional felt events, mostly from distant sources in the North Atlantic Ridge or from the more active seismic zone around western Norway. A few local events of magnitude 3 to 4 have been recorded instrumentally in the 20th and 21st centuries, likely related to minor reactivation of old basement faults or isostatic adjustments. The islands experienced significant post-glacial rebound following deglaciation after the last ice age, and some researchers attribute occasional minor seismicity to ongoing glacio-isostatic adjustment.
The [[tsunami]] hazard at the Faroe Islands is very low from local sources but could be significant from distant North Atlantic events — particularly a hypothetical large collapse of the Cumbre Vieja volcanic edifice on La Palma in the Canary Islands, though the probability and wave height of such an event are subject to scientific debate. The territory is monitored by the Danish Meteorological Institute and regional European networks.

Faroe Islands has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Faroe Islands's seismic history.
Faroe Islands has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.
Faroe Islands is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Europe. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
