Nauru is a small raised coral island in the central Pacific, sitting on the Pacific Plate interior with no nearby active plate boundaries, and therefore experiences essentially no indigenous seismicity. The island is an uplifted coral limestone platform approximately 21 square kilometres in area, with its highest point reaching only 71 metres above sea level. The geological stability of the Pacific Plate beneath Nauru means local fault activity is virtually absent. The primary seismic-related hazard facing Nauru is the [[tsunami]] generated by distant Pacific Rim earthquakes, though Nauru's somewhat elevated interior provides more evacuation options than flat atoll nations. The island's phosphate mining history, which has stripped roughly 80 percent of the interior landscape down to coral pinnacles, has altered the natural terrain and could affect [[seismic-wave]] propagation through the largely hollow and pitted surface in unpredictable ways during the rare instance of felt shaking from distant events.

Historical accounts do not record significant earthquake effects in Nauru beyond occasional felt events from distant regional earthquakes. The 1946 Aleutian [[tsunami]] and the 1960 Chilean mega-earthquake [[tsunami]] were recorded at Pacific tide gauge stations including those near Nauru, though significant inundation did not occur. The 2011 Tohoku [[tsunami]] produced minor wave heights at regional gauges. Nauru's geographic isolation in the central Pacific means that [[seismic-wave]] arrivals from distant events are well-attenuated by the time they reach the island. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center provides advance warning of any [[tsunami]] events generated around the Pacific Rim that could affect Nauru, typically providing an hour or more of warning for distant source tsunamis given the island's central Pacific location.

Nauru's geology is entirely the product of coral reef growth on a basaltic volcanic seamount that erupted on the Pacific Plate and has since moved away from its hotspot source and subsided. The phosphate deposits that made Nauru briefly one of the wealthiest nations per capita on Earth in the 1970s and 1980s represent the accumulation of bird guano and marine organic material within the elevated coral platform over millions of years. The island's central plateau — the former phosphate mining area — consists of a bare karst landscape of coral limestone pinnacles several metres tall. The surrounding coastal band of flatter ground, where most of the population lives, is closer to sea level and more vulnerable to [[tsunami]] inundation. No active faulting is documented beneath or near Nauru; the Pacific Plate in this area is among the oldest and most internally stable oceanic crust in any ocean basin.

Nauru has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Nauru's seismic history.

Nauru has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.

Nauru is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Oceania. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
