Togo is a narrow coastal nation in West Africa, situated on the West African craton and the Dahomeyide mobile belt — an ancient Pan-African orogenic structure that runs north-south through the country, marking the suture zone where the Volta Basin was accreted to the West African craton approximately 600 million years ago. While this orogenic belt preserves a record of ancient collision and deformation, it has been tectonically locked and geologically inactive for hundreds of millions of years and generates no significant contemporary seismicity.
The southern part of Togo faces the Gulf of Guinea passive margin, which formed during the Mesozoic opening of the South Atlantic. The passive margin geology is characterised by thick Cretaceous and Cenozoic sedimentary sequences deposited in the offshore Togo-Benin Basin. These sediments are not associated with active tectonic deformation or significant seismicity.
The Atakora Mountains in northwestern Togo represent a northward continuation of the Atacora fold belt that runs through Benin and Burkina Faso. These ancient structures are mechanically inert and produce no modern seismicity. The Mono River valley, which forms part of Togo's border with Benin, occupies an ancient geological depression but is not associated with active faulting.
Historical earthquake records for Togo are essentially blank. No earthquake has been documented to have caused casualties or structural damage in Togo's history. Occasional [[seismic-wave]] signals detected at regional networks near the Ghana-Togo border may be associated with Ghana's Akwapim fault zone activity, but events originating within Togo's territory are essentially unknown. [[magnitude]] events above 4.0 are not documented in the global earthquake catalogues for Togo.

Togo has a low level of seismic activity. Large earthquakes are infrequent but not impossible. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Togo's seismic history.
Togo has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.
Togo is classified in the "Low" seismic zone, located in Africa. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.
