Tổng quan địa chấn

Israel straddles the Dead Sea Transform Fault, one of the world's most geologically significant strike-slip systems. This left-lateral fault connects the Red Sea rift in the south to the East Anatolian Fault in the north, accommodating the northward motion of the Arabian Plate relative to the African (Sinai) microplate at roughly 3–6 millimetres per year. The Dead Sea Transform runs through the Jordan Rift Valley — a dramatic topographic feature containing the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River, and the Dead Sea (at 430 metres below sea level, the lowest point on Earth's land surface). Multiple fault strands make up the transform system, with the main active segment running through the Jordan Valley. Active fault segments also cross beneath populated areas near the Sea of Galilee.

Israel's historical earthquake record, one of the most ancient in the world, includes numerous catastrophic events that shaped biblical and subsequent history. The earthquake of 749 AD (estimated magnitude 7.0–7.5) devastated cities across the Jordan Valley, Galilee, and the Golan Heights, killing tens of thousands. The 1033 Dead Sea earthquake (magnitude approximately 7.0) caused widespread destruction. The 1202 Syria earthquake (magnitude ~7.6) and the 1759 earthquakes (two events, both ~7.0) devastated the region. More recently, the 1927 Jericho earthquake (magnitude 6.2) killed 287 people in Jerusalem and Jordan, causing significant damage to historical structures including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. [[intensity]] data from historical events show strong near-fault effects in the Jordan Valley with significant attenuation onto the stable Israeli coastal plain and Negev desert.

The tectonic context of Israel reflects the progressive rifting apart of the Red Sea and the transform boundary system connecting the rift to the broader collision zone. The Dead Sea pull-apart basin — a releasing bend in the transform fault where the valley is widest and deepest — has accumulated several kilometres of salt and sediment. The Carmel Fault and Roum Fault are synthetic structures branching from the main transform in northern Israel and Lebanon. GPS measurements confirm ongoing slip of the transform system and its accumulation of strain on locked fault segments. The [[epicenter]] distribution of Israeli earthquakes clusters along the Jordan Valley transform, with secondary activity on the Carmel Fault near Haifa. Earthquake hazard assessment for Israel identifies segments capable of magnitude 7.0–7.5 events with recurrence intervals of several centuries, representing a significant threat to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.

Earthquakes Near Major Cities in Israel

Câu Hỏi Thường Gặp

Israel has a moderate level of seismic activity. Significant earthquakes occur periodically. A total of 0 earthquakes have been recorded in Israel's seismic history.

Israel has had 0 recorded earthquakes. This count includes events of all magnitudes detected by seismic monitoring networks. The actual number of earthquakes may be higher, as smaller events can go undetected.

Israel is classified in the "Moderate" seismic zone, located in Asia. Seismic zones indicate the relative level of earthquake hazard based on historical activity, geological conditions, and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries.

An toàn động đất
